Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire
Stratford-upon-Avon is a town dominated by William Shakespeare and all things Shakespearian. It was here in 1564, that William Shakespeare was born and having found fame in London, retired to his birthplace and lived here until his death in 1616. Situated on the River Avon, in the heart of the Midlands, is one of the most famous towns in England. Boasting attractions such as the world-reknowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre, built in 1932 on the banks of the Avon after fire gutted its predecessor. Linked to it in a survivng part of the building is the Swan Theatre, as well as The Other Place which completes the trio of theatres in which the plays of Shakespeare are regularly performed. Other attractions include the town's picturesque canal basin, ancient Guild chapel and Holy Trinity Church in which Shakespeare is buried. Fantastic family days out include trips to the Butterfly Farm, The Teddy Bear Museum, Charlecote Park and The falstaffs Experience.
