Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
Royal Leamington Spa is a medium-sized town in Warwickshire, in the heart of the English countryside. It has a fine georgian town centre and a spa in the Royal Pump Rooms. The impressive colonnaded Pump Room was built in 1814, and baths, assembly rooms and hotels sprang up at strategic locations around the town. One of the towns more illustrious visitors in 1838 was Queen Victoria, who marked the occasion by granting Leamington the Royal prefix to its name. Leamington Spa also has one of the finest local shopping centres. Leamington is a thriving town with a strong economy, a sizeable student population (many who attend nearby Warwick University) and an exceptionally large number of pubs. In the summer, Leamington is always amongst the leading contenders for the "Britain in Bloom" award with everything from the parks to roundabouts and the fire station decked out with flowers. Its worth visiting in July/August/September just for that.
